GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Halloween can be a scary time of year, especially for very young children. Spooky images can be fun for teenagers but frightening their younger siblings.

Many children imagine scary creatures hiding in the closet or under the bed post Halloween. If your child has those fears, how should you respond? Also, how can adults tell what fears are beyond what is typical.

Developmental psychologist and host of "Mom Enough," Marti Erickson, shares some practical advice on how to deal with children’s fears, not only at Halloween, but all year long.

• Keep very young children away from scary images if possible.
• Take your child's fears seriously, but don’t overreact.
• Help your child gradually master fears.
• Remember your childhood and see through your child’s eyes
• If your child’s fears are extreme, interfere with sleep or the ability to play and learn during the day, seek professional help.
