GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - A nanny for an Edina family is moving on in NBC's "The Voice."

On Monday night, Kat Perkins, 33, of Minneapolis, was chosen by Adam Levine as the winner in the Battle Round. She faced off against Patrick Thompson in an epic performance of Kenny Loggin's "Whenever I Call You Friend."

Thompson was quickly snatched up as the newest member of #TeamShakira.

Perkins grew up on a farm in Scranton, North Dakota, which is a town of 300 people.

During her senior year in high school, she auditioned to be part of a country western review show. She traveled the country for five years performing as a yodeling cowgirl.

She switched to rock music in 2003 and performed in a band that opened up at one time for Bon Jovi.
