MINNEAPOLIS - Celebrity chef and Food Network "Chopped" judge Amanda Freitag is in the Twin Cities to help announce the winners of General Mills' "Neighborhood to Nation" recipe contest on Wednesday.
The contest seeks recipe ideas from independent family restaurants across the country. Three finalists are vying for the grand prize title, which includes $40,000 and a $10,000 donation to the charity of their choice.
"This is such a unique contest that I am proud to support for the third year," Freitag said. "It focuses on restaurant chefs who don't often get the recognition they deserve. They get to compete, sharing recipes that showcase their local flavor—representing where they cook and the regions they come from. Plus, they get some time in the spotlight!"
UPDATE: Sarah Peterson of General Mills said the Strawberry Cornbread Panzanella won the top prize.
