GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. – With the new year comes new worries for many people. But you don't have to carry them with you.

You can decide now to make the new year ahead positive by making little changes in how you think.

Those include: talking to yourself the way you'd talk to a best friend, practicing stopping your negative thoughts, making a success list, doing a self-compassion check, having goals to keep you in motion, practicing positive statements about you, and listing what's wonderful about your life.

When you practice being positive, you can be amazed at how it can lift your mood and lead to more positive things happening in your life.

Fore this week's motivation Monday, fitness expert Chris Freytag visited KARE 11 Sunrise with more on how to kick off 2014 on a positive note.
