Running Tap: From refugee to brewing entrepreneur

Running Tap takes craft beer from typically small local breweries and delivers them right to your home.

MINNEAPOLIS - In 1999, Isaac Tut and his family came to the U.S. from war-torn Sudan.

It was a hard life there and they were searching for something better.

“If you could imagine, you know," Tut says, "Coming from South Sudan we were escaping war and that’s how we ended up going to the refugee camp.”

He later attended college at St. Olaf where he met friend and current business partner Christopher Ho.

“It was just typical conversation like, 'How sucky is your corporate job' type talk," Ho jokes, explaining the conversation about starting their company Running Tap about six months ago. It’s a service that takes craft beer from typically small local breweries and delivers them to your home.

Right now Running Tap is working with 19 breweries with more to come. It’s a fraction of the 112 brewers the National Brewers Association lists in Minnesota.

“If everybody that liked beer could get this kind of exposure, I thought it would make people’s lives better. I thought people would love it,” Tut says.
