A Shakopee man has tied the state record fish with his 49-inch flathead catfish -- a title previously held by ... himself.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says Jake Robinson caught and released the new record catfish in the catch-and-release category on May 15 on the Minnesota River near Savage.
The massive catfish had a girth of 33-and-a-half inches, which just so happens to be identical to the previous record -- which Robinson also holds for a fish he caught last June.
Though, as the DNR release indicates, because of different markings, it appears to be two distinct fish.
Robinson has spent 11 years targeting flathead catfish and when asked for advice said, "stay on the move every 20 minutes if you don’t get a bite."
