MINNEAPOLIS - Nicollet Mall took another bit hit Saturday evening, with Barnes & Noble closing its doors.
Barnes opened exactly 23 years ago, on April 29, 1994. It was one of downtown Minneapolis' largest remaining stores, at 25,000 square feet spanning two floors.
This is not the first major retailer to close along Nicollet Mall in recent months. Macy's shut its doors in March.
Leah Wong from the Minneapolis Downtown Council said they are not yet sure what will happen to the space.
"There are lots of different discussions happening right now around the Barnes & Noble space, but it is not out of the question that It might be split up and multiple tenants brought into this corner," she said.
Barnes & Noble was set to close for good at 8 p.m. Saturday.
