Body found in Austin, TX identified as missing MN man

The cause and manner of death have not been determined but the Travis County Sheriff's Office says there is no evidence of foul play.

AUSTIN — AUSTIN, Texas - Authorities say a body found in an Austin, Texas lake has been positively identified as a missing Minnesota man.

Officials with Travis County said Christopher White, 25, was last seen leaving a rented home early Saturday morning. He was visiting town for the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

Friends told authorities that White was intoxicated and told them he may go down to the dock Saturday morning. A water and land search effort was conducted on Sunday and Monday.

At 1 p.m. on Monday, authorities say a 911 caller reported possibly seeing a body in Lake Austin. Police and deputies went to the location and recovered the body of a man who appeared to be in his 20s.

The medical examiner has now identified the body as that of White. The cause and manner of death have not been determined but the Travis County Sheriff's Office says there is no evidence of foul play.

"This is a terribly tragic situation," said Kristen Dark, spokesperson for Travis County Sheriff’s Office. "No one ever comes to Austin City Limits to have a great time expecting tragedy and so our hearts go out to them."

"The pain that's in the family right now is not fully understood so we're just trying to get by," said his older brother, Matt White, who took an emergency trip to Austin to help with search efforts.

"He was a best friend, brother, boyfriend, and overall one of the happiest guys," said Beau Webb, who was among the group of friends in town visiting for the festival.
