BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. - Two homes in Brooklyn Park sustained minor damage during a fire training exercise on Monday.

Brooklyn Park Fire crews were training near the intersection of 107th and Winnetka Avenues North around 2:30 p.m. when, according to Brooklyn Park Fire Deputy Chief Todd Seitz, the winds shifted sending the heat from the training fire across the street to neighbors’ homes.

"At first we were excited," said Matthew Roskowiak, who lives across the street from the abandoned homes. "But then, we saw the firefighters come into our backyard that's when we thought the house was on fire."

No one was hurt. Seitz says he doesn't know the total estimated cost of damages but the city will pay for the repairs.
