WACONIA, Minn. – A man is in critical condition after a crash that shut down Highway 5 in the west metro Friday morning. 

The incident happened between Steiger Lane and County Road 2 on Hwy. 5, near Waconia around 6:40 a.m. According to authorities, a Porsche Boxster was traveling at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a pickup truck. The truck was pushed into the right ditch of westbound Hwy. 5.

Witnesses told the State Patrol the Porsche did not appear to stop before hitting the truck. 

Hwy. 5 was closed while crews cleaned up a large amount of nails that the pickup truck was carrying, but has since re-opened.

Troopers say the driver of the Porsche, a 48-year-old Plymouth man, was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center.  He was listed in critical condition.  

The driver of the pickup truck, a 44-year-old man, was not seriously hurt. 

Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash on westbound Highway 5 between Steiger Lane and County Road 2 near Waconia.
