Crew 52 volunteers make new group, Forever 52

MINNEAPOLIS - Super Bowl volunteers are taking their experience to the next level by creating a new organization to keep the spirit of service alive called Forever 52.

One of the 10,000 Crew 52 volunteers started the new Facebook group two weeks ago.

“Our mission is to match people with volunteer opportunities in different communities with different community needs,” said James Farnsworth, a Crew 52 volunteer and now Forever 52 organizer.

Judy Swanson, another admin on the page, said the Crew 52 experience brought so many good people together that it created a gang of good Samaritans eager to tackle the next gig.

“There’s this inner excitement that I really can’t put words to,” said Swanson. “Every night we are on the computer shooting emails back and forth.”

So far, the page has 1,700 members, some of whom have already volunteered for new opportunities.

“A lot of us just said let's keep this going. We got a lot of good energy and a lot of people willing to sign up,” said Eric Tvedt, a Crew 52 volunteer and Forever 52 organizer.

The organizers say they are not quite ready for primetime yet. They still have a few weeks of organizing and structuring the new group before posting all of the opportunities coming in for volunteers to select.

“There's a pride in showcasing Minnesota,” said Swanson.

Minnesota Nice—even when the world isn't watching.
