MINNEAPOLIS - An armed robbery suspect is hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle while fleeing the alleged crime scene.

Squads were dispatched to a business robbery in the 3600 block of Minnehaha Avenue South just after 8:15 a.m. Tuesday. The suspect was armed with a gun and reportedly demanding that an employee of The Howe Daily Kitchen and Bar open the safe. Upon arrival, officers located a broken door and set up a perimeter.

Eventually, the suspect fled the scene on foot and was hit by a pickup driven by a police officer. Still armed and resisting arrest, officers deployed a taser which enabled them to take him into custody. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The 31-year-old was released a short time later and booked into the Hennepin County Jail.

Charges are pending.
