Going to Philly for the NFC title game? Here's a primer.

Here's the 411 on tickets, weather and activities for those thinking of going to Philly for the game this Sunday -- all from our former Philadelphian, Zach Lashway.

Note: The following account from Zach Lashway is based on having lived in Philadelphia for almost five years.

Anyone traveling to the City of Brotherly Love this weekend needs to know Eagles fans and Philadelphians alike bleed green. With that said, they are VERY welcoming people, and very passionate sports fans. And that is no joke.

Also not funny – the price of plane tickets into PHL this weekend. You’re looking at $552 on average. You might find cheaper tickets into Newark or Baltimore, or New York if you have to, and then take Amtrak from those airports to Philadelphia.

Sun Country is doing a special flight on Sunday leaving at 8 a.m. and then departing Philadelphia at 1 a.m. Monday. Flights start at $599 for coach class.

Once you get into Philly you don’t have to worry about hotels, as they are plentiful. I spoke to an old friend at Visit Philly Monday, and they say there are more than 11,000 hotel rooms through the city and surrounding area. If you stay in Center City, which is the heart of Philadelphia, you’ll pay more, but it is an easy subway ride to the LINC in South Philly.

Lincoln Financial Field is 15 years old and has more than 69,000 seats. Most of those seats are outside. So you’re going to want to dress in layers, but the forecast this Sunday is looking pretty decent at this time. A high of 53 and a low of 39, which will be a heat wave for purple fans. Kickoff is at 6:40 p.m., so it’ll be chilly, but still warmer than here!

Tickets for Sunday’s matchup go on sale Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. The cheapest I have found were on Ticketmaster for $378.

And of course, there is always something going on in Philadelphia. From Winter Fest along Delaware River Waterfront to Dilworth Winter Garden outside of City Hall, or the Winter Fountains on the Ben Franklin Parkway leading to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. While you’re there you can check out the Rookie statue, run the steps, and visit Boat House Row along Kelly Drive.

And the sculptor of the Spoon Bridge outside the Walker has several art installations throughout Philadelphia. If Minnesotans want more information on the City of Brotherly Love, I suggest checking out visitphilly.com.

And lastly, one of the most notorious sports incidents in Philly history came during halftime of the Vikings-Eagles game back in 1968, when Eagles fans pelted Santa Claus with snowballs during halftime.

The "why" it happened will depend on who you ask. But I can tell you that year the Eagles had a horrible season. They only won two games, they were in line for the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL Draft, which was OJ Simpson, and lost it. You add the snow in on top of it and the fact they would go on to lose that game to the Vikings 24 to 17 and, well, need I say more?

The Eagles and Vikings have met three times in the postseason.

The Birds have won all three of those matchups.
