CHASKA, Minn. - The Dahlia Trial Garden at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is so gorgeous this time of year.

It is about half way along the 3 mile drive on the right you can't miss it with the stunning large colorful blooms.

This Dahlia Trial garden is one of only eight in North America. The Minnesota Dahlia Society maintains it and tubers are being judged there to become potentially the next dahlia that you will eventually find in your garden center. It is called the North Central Trial Garden and the dahlias are marked by numbers to assure anonymity of the originator and allow for unbiased evaluation. If the bloom get a score of 85 or higher, based on form, color, stem, and foliage they could be released for introduction to the public.

On Aug. 31, and Sept. 1, the Minnesota Dahlia Society will have their largest show of the year at the Horticulture building at the Minnesota State Fair. There will be nearly 1500 prize winning blooms on display.

On Sept. 20-21, there is also a conference for the Dahlia Society and it is held at the Bachman's on Lyndale Ave.
