MINNEAPOLIS - The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has temporarily closed Thomas Beach at Lake Calhoun due to high bacteria levels.

Officials said that the closure, which took place on Thursday, was made during regular sampling of bacteria. They said they found E. coli exceeded state specified guidelines at the beach.

This closure is likely due to unusual conditions at the beach due to ongoing high water levels, officials said.

The beach closed until further notice. All other MPRB public beaches are open and have acceptable bacteria levels.
