BLUE EARTH COUNTY, Minn. - The son of the Hennepin County sheriff has pleaded guilty to a child sex crime.
Ryan James Stanek, 25, pleaded guilty on Monday to soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct, a felony-level charge.
Stanek faced four felony charges related to possessing child pornography and soliciting a child for sex. Three were dismissed on Monday at his plea hearing.
According to the criminal complaint, a "young adult" woman was having sexual text message correspondence with a man calling himself "Nick" in March of 2017. Her father approached the Sibley County Sheriff's Office, saying that the man, who authorities would later identify as Stanek, asked his daughter to locate minor girls for a sexual encounter.
Stanek later agreed to a meeting with an undercover agent that he believed was a 13-year-old girl he was meeting for sex, according to the complaint. When he arrived for that meeting on May 19, 2017, he was arrested.
Stanek is scheduled to be sentenced on May 30.
