MINNEAPOLIS - The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc., parent company of Herberger’s and Younkers, announced Thursday that going out of business sales will begin Friday.

Bon-Ton Stores Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February. Earlier this month, the Milwaukee-based company sent required notice to the Minnesota Employment and Economic Development that the closings would impact more than 500 employees in the state.

The group of liquidators and creditors who bought Bon-Ton out of bankruptcy for almost $800 million in an auction that ended Tuesday are wasting no time in winding down the retailer. A judge approved the sale on Wednesday.

The sales will be both in-store and online. The company has 12 stores in Minnesota and a total of 250 across the country.
