LAKEVILLE, Minn. - A Lakeville man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell after police found nearly 100 pounds of gummies and other candies containing tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.

Austin James Hagen, 23, of Lakeville, was pulled over early Friday morning. According to the criminal complaint, the officer smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, the officer found a large duffle bag containing eight Tupperware bins full of candies containing THC, the same chemical found in marijuana that causes a high.

"This is the second case within the past week that our office has charged in arrests made in Lakeville involving a large amount of “gummies” containing THC," said Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom. "Gummies and other edibles are of great concern as they are manufactured with varying levels of THC, When products are shaped like candy, there is a not only a greater concern of possible overdose, there is also the concern that children will accidentally ingest them.”

Hagen's next court appearance is set for March 15.
