CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Co - Colorado authorities officially confirmed Friday that two bodies discovered by a search crew are a father and son from Minnesota who disappeared while hiking in April.

Clear Creek County Sheriff's Captain Bruce Snelling confirmed that the remains of 51-year-old Damian McManus and his 18-year-old son Evan McManus were discovered near Vance Creek on Mount Evans, not far from where the St. Louis Park residents left their vehicle. The two were last heard from April 2 while in the midst of a spring break road trip that took them to the rugged region. The two were reported missing April 6.

Crews from Alpine Rescue searched extensively for the men without much to go on. Their car was found at a campground near the base of the mountain, which is west of Denver, but no one had any idea which trail they took. Heavy snow fell after they disappeared, erasing any footprints or traces on which route they took. The Sheriff's office says all told, Alpine Rescue invested 46 days and 5,000 hours to the rescue/search/recovery of Damian and Evan McManus.

While there is no official cause of death, Snelling suggested the men succumbed to the cold.

On Tuesday, four Minneapolis-area firefighters began a new search for Damian and Evan. They were working with the Colorado Alpine team that found Damian and Evan.
