ORONO, Minn. - Fire crews from a number of west metro departments are battling a blaze that has consumed a large home not far from Lafayette Bay in Orono.

Firefighters were dispatched to 2560 Old Beach Road shortly before 9 a.m. and quickly called for mutual aid.

Images from SKY 11 show significant damage to a large portion of the house. A fire official on the scene tells KARE 11 the fire is under control, but that the structure is considered a total loss.

He says the family is on vacation, and that no one was inside when the house went up.

At this time there is no word on possible causes but the fire does not appear suspicious in nature.

Public records show the home was built in 1972 and is currently valued at $349,000.
