EDINA, Minn. -- A funeral was held Sunday for a University of Minnesota student who died in the icy Chicago River earlier this month.

Lauren Li drowned Jan. 13 while trying to help Ken Hoang after he fell into the river trying to get his cell phone. He also died.

Family members remembered Lauren as a passionate dancer, hospice volunteer and an honor student at the U of M who was preparing to go to medical school.

They say her effort to help her friend was not surprising.

Hoang's cousin, Quoc Viet Hoang, also went into the Chicago River to help but survived.

The three were visiting Chicago with a group of friends.
