Council will vote Friday to submit Minneapolis 2040 plan

The Minneapolis City Council plans to move forward on Friday with a vote to authorize the 2040 Comprehensive Plan for submission to the Metropolitan Council, according to a spokesperson for the city attorney’s office. In the decision released on Thursday, Judge Klein wrote that a council vote to authorize submission to the Met Council would not cause “immediate changes” to any zoning or city projects. The judge pointed out that the Met Council would still have at least four months to review the city’s plan and could request modifications.

Vikings send care packages to service members

The Vikes filled 650 care packages and sent them to the Minnesota-based 34th Red Bull Infantry Division in Kuwait. The Red Bulls posted on their Facebook page -- saying a huge thank you -- and that they love their hometown team.

Kevin Hart steps down as Oscars host after homophobic comment backlash

Just two days after been named host of the Academy Awards, Kevin Hart has stepped down following an outcry over past homophobic tweets by the comedian. Capping a swift fallout, Hart wrote on Twitter just after midnight Friday that he was withdrawing as Oscars host because he didn't want to be a distraction. "I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past," wrote Hart.Hart stepped aside just about an hour after refusing to apologize for tweets that resurfaced after he was announced as Oscars host on Tuesday. In a video on Instagram, Hart said the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences gave him an ultimatum: apologize or "we're going to have to move on and find another host."
