GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — St. Paul police investigating fatal shooting near Rice Street

Police responded to the 900 block of Rice Street around 5:00 pm Sunday evening for a report of a man shot. When they arrived at the corner of Wayzata and Rice Streets, they found a man with a gunshot wound, unconscious and not breathing. The man was declared dead in his car. Police are still looking for suspects and witnesses. This incident happened only blocks away from another fatal shooting that occurred in September outside a grocery store. It is St. Paul's 29th homicide of 2019.

Lindstrom firefighter gets life-saving double lung transplant

The family of firefighter Mike Gaustad is waiting to see if his double lung transplant was successful. Gaustad, a 20 year volunteer with the Lindstrom Fire Department, received both lungs overnight Saturday at the University of Minnesota, after suffering a rare condition called Interstitial Lung Disease. However, Mike isn't out of the woods yet. His body could still reject the new lungs. To get a transplant, a patient must be sick enough to top the list, but healthy enough to survive surgery. A friend created a GoFundMe page to support Mike's family, which has raised $23,000 so far.

Wisconsin deer hunters targeted by animal rights extremists

When he was getting his deer stands ready for hunting season back in August, Scott McDermott from New Richmond, WI, found them tipped over and damaged. Someone cut the stilts in half and the windows were painted black. Inside, the message "You are scum" was spray painted on the walls, and on the roof, a threat: "The hunters will be hunted." McDermott wouldn't be the last victim. Over the last couple months, deer stands have been vandalized across Dunn County WI, and then last week in Barron County. The damage was all very similar. In each case, including McDermott's, the vandals spray painted a letter "A" with an "L" and "F" inside of it. Sheriffs from all three counties believe it's the logo for the Animal Liberation Front, and the lawmen believe its members are behind the damage.
