ST. PAUL, Minn. - A mother who met with Gov. Mark Dayton earlier this month says he told her to buy marijuana illegally to treat her 2-year-old son's intractable epilepsy.
Jessica Hauser of Woodbury said Wednesday that Dayton suggested she buy marijuana on Minnesota streets or in another state where medical marijuana is legal.
Dayton spokesman Matt Swenson said the governor doesn't advocate breaking the law. Later, Swenson said Dayton spoke with the woman in private but wouldn't say whether her claim was true.
Hauser says Dayton made the remarks in front of several other medical marijuana supporters at the meeting. Heather Azzi, one of those supporters, confirmed Dayton's remarks.
Advocates for legalizing marijuana have criticized the governor sharply for not supporting legalized marijuana.
