How getting organized helps the environment

Earth week reminds us to think about small changes we can make that have a positive impact on our environment.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Earth week, April 22-28, reminds us to think about small changes we can make that have a positive impact on our environment.

Louise Kurzeka, Director of Marketing for the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals, recommends repurposing stuff we already have, versus buying new, as one way to begin making those changes. Try these tips and see how much cash and trash you can save.

  • Single cupcake holders from the grocery store make ideal protective holders of special/fragile ornaments or collectibles.
  • Dress up a 6-pack cardboard beverage holder to be the new condiment carrier for backyard and deck dining.
  • Create an ideal pancake batter dispenser from an empty ketchup bottle.
  • Popsicle sticks make great portable paint swatches when redecorating.
  • Egg cartons stuffed with dryer lint become a money saving fire starter for a backyard fire pit or fireplace
  • Plastic jugs with the bottoms cut off can funnel liquid or dry ingredients.
  • Store quarters for tolls when traveling by repurposing an empty prescription bottle.
