MINNEAPOLIS - Parts of Minnesota could see several inches of snow overnight Friday and into Saturday.
But this is late March. Seriously. Is this common?
“In March we typically see a little more than 10 inches of snow, on average,” explained KARE 11 Meteorologist Jeff Edmondson.
So does that make March the snowiest month of the year?
“January and December are actually one and two, March is the third snowiest month we have typically in an average winter here in the Twin Cities,” explained Edmondson.
But for those you who thought March was the snowiest month.
“It actually was... so if you asked me that question, is March the snowiest month, back in 2002, yes, it was the snowiest month in Winter back in the 2000s, or the 1990s and 1980s.”
Edmondson says it’s hard to say why it's changed.
“Part of the reason we are seeing that change, if it is a little warmer instead of getting snow we are getting rain, so we are still getting the precipitation, but it is just changing form.”
