MINNEAPOLIS - The world's largest airplane took off from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Wednesday night.

The Antonov An-225 is just eight yards shy of the length of a football field. At 290 feet, it has the largest wingspan of any airplane.

Powered by six turbofan engines it was designed to carry the Russian version of a space shuttle and now handles large cargo.

The airplaine left MSP around 9 p.m. headed for the Middle East.
