APPLE VALLEY, Minn. - A man is dead after holding Apple Valley Police at bay in a standoff Thursday night.
Squads were dispatched to a home on the Eastview Court shortly after 5 p.m. on reports of a suicidal male. Responding officers were told by family members that the 42-year-old man had taken a large amount of medication and was threatening to shoot anyone who might come to the door.
Tactical officers and the department's crisis team were called in, and a perimeter was set up around the neighborhood. Officers attempted to make contact with the man for several hours,, but were unsuccessful. At 10:10 p.m. officers made a high-risk entrance, but found that the man was dead.
At this time authorities aren't releasing the name of the man or his cause of death.
