PLYMOUTH, Minn. - A man has died of injuries suffered in a fire at an apartment building in Plymouth, a fire that officials say he may have set.
Crews were dispatched to the building on the 3300 block of Highway 169 around 11 p.m. Thursday on reports of an apartment fire. Firefighters discovered heavy smoke in the hallways and learned one person was still inside a third floor apartment.
Plymouth Police Chief Mike Goldstein says firefighters rescued the man, who had suffered smoke inhalation and severe burns. Authorities said Friday morning the man had died from his injuries.
Besides the one victim, all other residents escaped the burning building safely.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has ruled the death a suicide, as the man is believed to have set the fire intentionally. Damage was contained to the one third floor apartment, and everyone else else been able to return to their homes.
