WASHINGTON - A two-star U.S. General is reported dead and at least 15 American troops wounded following a mass shooting inside an Afghan military defense academy.

NBC news says the unnamed general and two high-ranking officers from other coalition countries were killed when a man dressed in an Afghan army uniform opened fire on foreign troops at Camp Qargha, a base west of the capital, Kabul.

Gen. Mohammmad Zahir Azimi, a spokesman for Afghanistan's Defense Ministry, said a "terrorist in an army uniform" opened fire on both local and international troops. Azimi said the shooter had been killed.

Sources say the death toll could rise due to the severity of injuries in the mass shooting.
