One hurt in explosion at FedEx Ground facility in Texas

The blast happened overnight Tuesday morning at the FedEx Ground distribution center in Schertz, just northeast of San Antonio on FM 3009 Highway.

SCHERTZ, Texas -- One person was hurt after a package bomb exploded at a FedEx Ground distribution center in Texas, according to police.

The blast happened Tuesday morning at the distribution center in Schertz, just northeast of San Antonio on FM 3009 Highway.

The person injured is a FedEx employee and was treated and released at the scene, police said. Law enforcement confirms the package that exploded was being mailed to Austin.

This comes after four explosions in less than two weeks in Austin. Police there now believe they are dealing with a serial bomber.

An FBI agent told CBS “it’s more than possible” that this package is related to the ones in Austin.

The first unconfirmed reports of the explosion came in around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

ATF and FBI agents were on the scene, along with San Antonio Police Department SWAT and bomb squads. Those agencies have not yet spoken with a KENS 5 reporter on the scene to provide an update to the public.

Our sister station KENS 5 received a call from one woman whose husband works at the facility. She told us that he was not being allowed to leave.
