ELK RIVER, Minn. - A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Northstar train in Elk River on Sunday, according to Metro Transit.

Howie Padilla, spokesperson for Metro Transit, said the accident happened at about 6 p.m., near 192nd Avenue and Ogden Street.

He said two people were walking westbound on the tracks when one was somehow alerted that the train was approaching, and got off the tracks. Padilla said the second person did not get off the tracks and was struck by the train. That person died at the scene.

Metro Transit identified the teenager killed by the Northstar Commuter train Sunday night as Grayson McKay Dow, 17, of Elk River.

Dow's mother posted photos of her son on Facebook saying, "My oldest son was killed tonight, words can’t express how absolutely devastated I am! Grayson you are so loved!!"

Metro Transit is investigating along with Elk River Police and the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office.

Padilla said the passengers stayed on the train and it continued on its way about 60 to 90 minutes after the accident.
