Road rage leads to 71-year-old beaten

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says an angry driver followed a 71-year-old man to his home in East Bethel and assaulted him.

HAM LAKE, Minn. - Authorities in Anoka County are looking for a suspect they say assaulted a man after a road rage incident.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the incident started on Friday at about 8 p.m. when the victim had to brake suddenly to avoid a "traffic situation" ahead of him while driving in Ham Lake near Broadway and Lexington. The driver behind him became angry and began to drive aggressively and taunt him, with the incident continuing westbound on Crosstown Avenue, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies say the victim thought the other driver had left, so he went to his home in East Bethel. When he arrived, the sheriff's office says he was assaulted by the other driver and beaten repeatedly on his face and head.

The victim sustained multiple face fractures and lacerations requiring many stitches.

A Facebook post written by a family member of the victim has been shared more than 40 thousand times. In it, they plead with anyone with information to come forward.

"We want this guy caught! I, for one, am sick to death of people thinking that they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, without consequences. This is a 71 year old man who did nothing...literally NOTHING to warrant this. Our family is heartbroken and helpless and those are the 2 worst feelings to have. Please, please, please share this post!!" the family member wrote.

The sheriff's office says the suspect is a 35-year-old white man, 6 feet tall or taller, with short, possibly buzzed hair. He is believed to be wearing a longer leather coat or jacket, and likely has injuries to his hands.

The suspect's vehicle is described as a dark silver/gray Mustang or similar model, newer, with dark tinted windows, LED headlights and a line of LED lights just below the headlights.

"Anyone who would brutally attack a senior citizen in this manner is a clear danger to the public," the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said on Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Anoka County Sheriff's Office at 763-427-1212 or submit an anonymous tip through their website.
