EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. –The Minnesota Vikings have found a backup running back for Adrian Peterson in the third round.

The Vikings selected Jerick McKinnon with pick No. 96 in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Vikings acquired the pick from the Seattle Seahawks in the Percy Harvin trade.

McKinnon actually played quarterback in a triple option offense at Georgia Southern. He is listed at 5 feet 8 inches tall and 209 pounds. He ran a 4.41 40-yard dash.

According to ESPN, he is a proven leader and a workout warrior, who loves to spend time in the weight room. They called him a shifty runner that darts in and out of seams and accelerates out of cuts. He is described as explosive and he has the ability to reach top-end speed quickly.

He caught the ball well at the combine, but has limited experience in that part of the game.
