MINNEAPOLIS -- We now know the name of the woman in critical condition after she was hit and dragged by a box truck while crossing the street Wednesday night near Lake Calhoun.

Twenty-five-year-old Caitlan Christine Barton of Savage was crossing West Lake Street, heading South on Market Plaza, when she was struck in the crosswalk by a DHL box truck driven by an 18-year-old male.

Minneapolis Police spokesman John Elder says the driver most likely didn't see Barton when she began to cross at the exact time he was turning west on a green light from Market Plaza onto West Lake Street.

Elder said the driver immediately stopped when he realized he hit Barton but that she was dragged 25 to 30 feet.

"He rendered aid to the victim and absolutely is cooperating with the investigation into the crash and alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor," Elder said Thursday night.

Police said Barton has just left a yoga studio in the shopping area when she was heading to cross the street.

The driver was not ticketed at the scene but he could be as the investigation moves forward.
