RICHMOND, Wis. - Authorities in western Wisconsin say a young child died in a house fire on Monday.
According to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office, crews responded to the blaze at a residence on Margaret Street in the Town of Richmond at about 3:15 p.m. Deputies say that neighbors, family members and first responders all tried to get to the child, but due to fire and heat, were not able to.
The child died as a result of the fire, according to the sheriff's office. No identity has been released.
The New Richmond Fire Department, St. Croix County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin State Fire Marshal are investigating.
