MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota's 26-player recruiting class for 2018 is the program's highest-ranked since the turn of the century.

The Gophers landed at 28th in the country in the composite rankings at 247Sports.com. That's sixth in the Big Ten and first in the West Division. Over the previous eight years, the Gophers had an average ranking of 58th in the FBS.

The class signed Wednesday includes four Minnesotans: quarterback Zack Annexstad (Mankato area), offensive lineman Nathan Boe (Lakeville), tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford (St. Cloud) and defensive back Josh Aune (St. Paul). Defensive back Benny Sapp III, whose father played for the Vikings, is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He moved to Eden Prairie last year.

Another highlight is transfer Vic Viramontes of Riverside, California. He's the top-ranked dual-threat junior college quarterback in the country.
