INDIANAPOLIS - In sickness and in health, in championship seasons and in rebuilding years, this Indiana couple is committed, now and forever, to each other.
Jennifer Hardey, 39, and Joseph Swaim, 48, from Brazil, Ind., chose Lucas Oil Stadium to declare their love Thursday night. And an awesome honeymoon present from the team and the NFL will bring the couple to the Twin Cities to see Super Bowl 52 in person.
Combining two of the things Swaim loves most, his fiance and Colts football, was still a tough thing to wrap his mind around minutes before the wedding.
"It's still kind of sinking it," Swaim said. "Standing in this stadium right now. I still can't believe it."
The couple met through mutual friends last year, getting engaged in April. When they put their name out to be considered for the experience, they decided to talk about family.
Swaim lost two of his brothers at a young age and his parents have since died, too. He's survived only by his sister and two daughters. Hardey's father was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer last year.
"He kept saying he wants to walk me down the aisle," Hardey said. "We told them that it would make my dad's day to be able to give me away."
Her dad, a lifelong Colts fan, wasn't able to walk, but he was able to be on the field, escorting her to her future husband in the end zone at Lucas Oil Stadium.
So no matter the game result, the couple will remember the day for years to come.
"How many get to have that as their story for their wedding?" Swaim said.
