Purple Power: Vikings NFC favorite to reach Super Bowl

Las Vegas bookmakers have a positive vibe for the purple.

MINNEAPOLIS - Postseason football is upon us and the Minnesota Vikings (13-3) are hoping to make history.

In one month, Super Bowl 52 will kickoff at U.S. Bank Stadium. Minnesota, who has earned a first-round bye and second seed in the NFC playoffs, needs to win just two games to be the first team ever to play in a Super Bowl on its home field.

Oddsmakers are liking the Vikings chances. According to ESPN's Football Power Index, Minnesota has a 20 percent chance to win, yes WIN, the Super Bowl on Feb. 4.

Las Vegas bookmakers also have a positive vibe for the purple. The Las Vegas SuperBook has Minnesota as the conference favorite to reach the big game. Westgate has the New England Patriots as the favorite to win the Super Bowl. The Vikings are next at 4-1.

“That still means it is more likely than not that the Vikings will lose the Super Bowl but another way to describe it is the Vikings odds of winning the game are roughly the same as Trump's odds of winning the 2016 election in the betting market a couple of weeks before the election,” said St. Thomas professor of economics, Dr. John Spry.

He's right. In June of 2016, oddsmakers said Hillary Clinton had an 80% chance of winning.

So, Skol Vikings.
