St. Paul orchard for opportunity begins growing thanks to SB52 grant

The Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee Legacy Fund awarded Dayton's Bluff Neighborhood Housing Services a $50,000 grant to support the organization’s Rivoli Bluff Orchard Project.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - An orchard for opportunity began growing Tuesday in St. Paul.

The Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee Legacy Fund awarded Dayton's Bluff Neighborhood Housing Services a $50,000 grant to support the organization’s Rivoli Bluff Orchard Project.

For a half a century, Rivoli Bluff was used as a dumping ground for the city's streets department.

Cleanup on the site began in the early 2000s, but when the Great Recession hit, cleanup was halted -- until last year.

Tuesday, members of the community planted 61 trees that will make up the orchard. Apples, apricots, plums and cherries will hopefully be able to be picked two to four years from now.
