EAGAN, Minn. - Reports on free agent quarterback signings have been fast and furious Tuesday, with a prominent NFL insider saying Kirk Cousins plans to sign a three-year deal with the Vikings.
ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that the deal will be fully guaranteed, but had no dollar amounts on the contract. Earlier he had tweeted that the figures the two sides were exchanging were in the area of $28 million per season. At this point, per NFL rules, the deal cannot be confirmed.
"No final decisions have been made,” Schefter quoted Cousins’ agent Mike McCartney as saying Tuesday. “The plan is to visit Minnesota first. That’s all we can say right now.”
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted that Cousins and his agent will meet with the Vikings brass for dinner Wednesday night, and then visit the team's new Eagan facility Thursday.
Rapoport puts the three-year deal at $86 million guaranteed. He says the Cardinals and Jets remains in the mix, but only if Cousins and his agent leave Minnesota without inking a contract.
The reported Cousins signing was just part of the flurry of activity Tuesday. Reliable sources in Denver say former Viking signal caller Case Keenum has come to an agreement with the Broncos that calls for two years at $36 million, and in New Orleans perennial All-Pro Drew Brees signed a 2-year, $50 million extension that will all but ensure he will end his career with the Saints.
