NFL insiders report that Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon has inked a free agent contract with San Francisco.

EAGAN, Minn. - The comings and goings continue with the Minnesota Vikings, amidst reports a versatile running back is leaving for a bigger paycheck and more playing time.

NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted Wednesday morning that Jerick McKinnon has agreed to a 4-year, $30 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers. That breaks down to an average of about $7.5 milllion a year, a significant raise over what he was making with the Vikings.

The breakup between McKinnon and the team that drafted him appeared inevitable, with the projected return of budding superstar Dalvin Cook from a torn ACL and the workman-like ground and pound attack offered by Latavius Murray.

“I want to be the guy,” McKinnon said to ESPN.com’s Vikings reporter Courtney Cronin. “I don’t put in all the work in the offseason to come back and be in this role. I appreciate the role. It worked out well, but I want bigger and better things for myself.”

McKinnon's versatility and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield make him a nice fit with San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan's offensive philosophy.
