MINNEAPOLIS - Friday's Class AAA state baseball semifinal between Waconia and Marshall had no shortage of drama. A walkoff RBI from Waconia's Robbie Smith lead the undefeated Wildcats to a 7-6 win at Siebert Field in Minneapolis.

The drama ramped up in the top of the 5th inning when the scoreless Marshall Tigers tallied three runs to tie the game.

Waconia answered in the bottom of the 5th with a run of their own, taking a 4-3 lead.

The Tigers weren't done in the top of the 7th, they took a 6-4 lead thanks to a two run triple from senior Jacob Hess.

Like the Tigers, however, Waconia wasn't finished either. A pair of RBI singles from Jake Hendricks and Dillon Whittaker tied the game at 6 apiece. That set the stage for Robbie Smith. Smith sent one down the right field line, driving in the game winning run.

"I was just excited," Smith said when asked about seeing the ball drop in right field. "No words can describe it."

Waconia's 7-6 victory keeps their perfect record on the season intact at 25-0.

"They just never quit, that's the way they've been all year," Waconia Head Coach Mark Grundofer told KARE 11 after the game. "I just never count them out."

The Wildcats advance to Monday's Class AAA championship game at Target Field where they'll face Hibbing, the other semifinal winner. That game is scheduled for 4:00pm.
