ELLSWORTH, Wis. - A man is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a crash Monday that authorities are linking to winter weather.
Wisconsin State Troopers and deputies from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department were called to a scene near Ellsworth shortly after 3:30 p.m. and found two vehicles that had collided on Highway 63 and County Road Y. They learned that a 2006 Buick was traveling northbound when it hit and area of blowing and drifting snow, causing the male driver to lose control and cross the centerline. At that point it was struck at high speed by a southbound 2014 Jeep.
Investigators say the driver of the Buick was not wearing his seatbelt. He was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep was belted in, and appeared uninjured.
