ELKO-NEW MARKET, Minn. - A fatal crash during Wednesday morning's rush hour has closed down a heavily used stretch of interstate in the south metro.
Minnesota 511 reports that a multi-vehicle accident that includes a semi has shut down the northbound lanes of I-35 at exit 69, about three miles south of Elko-New Market. The incident occurred about 6:30 a.m., and the interstate remained closed for much of the morning as crews handled cleanup and reconstruction.
Traffic was routed off the interstate at the Highway 19 exit ramp and then back onto I-35, triggering delays of more than 40 minutes for motorists headed north.
Late morning the road was reopened for traffic.
