MINNEAPOLIS - Continuing work on the I-35W project in Minneapolis will provide a dose of inconvenience for late night drivers Friday into Saturday.

MnDOT says the northbound lanes of I-35W between I-94 and the Crosstown/Highway 62 will be shut down at 10 p.m. Friday, and remain closed until 5 a.m. Saturday. MnDOT communications specialist Dave Aeikens says Motorists can still access the downtown exits and I-94 west ramp, but will not be able to continue north on I-35W or access I-94 east.

The closure is to allow crews to install beams on the Franklin Avenue Bridge.

The suggested detour is westbound I-94 to westbound I-394 to southbound Highway 100 to eastbound Crosstown/Highway 62.

The work is part of the ongoing project to transform the I-35W corridor in Minneapolis. When complete this section of interstate will have a new MnPASS lane, a new Orange Line Rapid Transit Bus Station, improved pedestrian access, and better noise barriers. Work is expected to be wrapped up in the fall of 2021.
