MnDOT: I-694 near Oakdale now open

An estimated 87,000 commuters use the road daily.
After a sinkhole closed Interstate 694 near Oakdale for almost a week, north and southbound lanes were reopened Saturday morning.

OAKDALE, Minn. - The Minnesota Department of Transportation reopened Interstate 694 near Oakdale on Saturday morning.

The road has been closed since a water main break caused a sinkhole which was discovered Sunday morning.

A water main break in Oakdale created a big sinkhole under Interstate 694 on Sunday.

MnDOT reported final repairs would be completed Friday night or Saturday morning with crews removing barriers and opening the road Saturday morning, one day earlier than previously estimated.

MnDOT's director of communications, Kevin Gutknecht, announced on Twitter that southbound 694 was open at about 7:45 a.m. Just before 8:30 a.m., he reported that northbound lanes were open as well.

An estimated 87,000 commuters use the road daily.
