MINNEAPOLIS -- Still, as of Friday morning, the Twin Cities International Airport has not seen a temperature 32 degrees or colder this autumn.
If we look at past weather records from 1871 to today, we on average see our first frost, 32 degrees on Oct. 6. This year we have yet to see that happen in the Twin Cities.
How rare is this year? Rare! The latest frost we've seen in recent years was on Oct. 28, 2007. Then you have to go back to the 1970s where we had a late frost on Oct. 30, 1973. The latest frost on record goes way back to November 7, 1900.
Our urban heat island and our weather pattern are likely having an effect on our later-than-normal first frost this year.
