'A little bump at the end': Passengers react to airplane skidding into snow

An airport spokesperson says the aircraft’s nose gear went about 30 feet off the pavement and got stuck.

MINNEAPOLIS — There are new details surfacing about the Delta airplane that skidded off the taxiway after safely landing at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) Tuesday night.

Cell phone video shows its nose gear went off the pavement around 6:40 p.m. after arriving from Cabo San Lucas with 147 passengers on board.

"The flight was great, it was smooth," said passenger Kim Gorres. "We did have a little bit of a bump at the end -- nothing huge."

Gorres says they were all shocked to learn what happened.

"They just did such a good job of keeping everyone calm," said Gorres who praised the pilot for being transparent about what happened and everyone else for being polite.

"Because, you know, whenever there's some sort of delay, even something like this, a lot of times, I feel like people jump the gun and complain rather than feeling grateful that they're ok," said Gorres.

The drizzling rain on Tuesday shut down the runways for two hours -- the number of flight cancellations neared 115 on Wednesday.

Traveler MaryLynn Widseth was lucky and escaped any trouble on her trip from Florida.

"There was more trouble I'd say coming into Atlanta where it was bumpier," said Widseth.

As for Gorres, it took two hours to get off the plane onto waiting buses, and even longer to get her luggage.

"You know, it could have been worse and the experience was not horrible," said Gorres.

An airport spokesperson says passengers should expect some lingering delays on Thursday as it continues to snow. The Delta plane has since been removed and didn't impact any other airport operations.
