Don't be alarmed: Tornado siren test happening Thursday

The National Weather Service is conducting a tornado drill Thursday that includes the outdoor warning sirens.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Don't worry, it's just a test

If you a hear a tornado siren Thursday, it's because the National Weather Service is doing a drill for Severe Weather Awareness Week.

You'll hear the tornado sirens at 1:45 p.m. in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Here's the full schedule from the National Weather Service:

  • 1:00 p.m. - Simulated tornado watch issued for Minnesota and Wisconsin.
  • 1:45 p.m. - Simulated tornado warning issued for all of Wisconsin. (This includes outdoor warning siren.)
  • 1:45 p.m. - Simulated tornado warning issued for Minnesota counties. (This includes outdoor warning siren.)
  • 2:00 p.m. - The National Weather Service will issue an "End of Test" message using the Severe Weather Statement product.
  • 6:45 p.m. - The NWS will issue another simulated tornado warning for Minnesota and Wisconsin counties.

Severe Weather Awareness Week runs from April 9-13, 2018.
